3D printing of polymers holds promise for the production of tailor-made products. Medical applications such as the orthopaedic applications targeted in this application are a prime example. However cost, long production times, available materials and lack of dedicated printers are still severe bottlenecks. The first target product in this project will be corsets and prosthetic sockets.
The current industrial partners will focus on the synthesis of the co-polyesters, 3D-printing of the material and applying this pellet-based fused deposition modelling technique for the development of orthopaedics. The resulting materials fabricated via the 3D printing of these newly developed co-polyesters could be expanded to other areas, therefore especially companies with new potential applications for 3D printed co-polyesters would be of interest for this project.
This project will be submitted in the VLAIO-call for intercluster projects.
